The Many Faces of is an anomaly. Its hard not to like his beats because he’s made many gems, especially when he’s flipped jazz and bossa nova samples.

He has an array of acclaimed session musicians he frequently works with and trades ideas with. The BEP member has been known to keep his equipment minimal. An MPC here, a few Moog Synths there, occasionly hopping on the piano.

One thing I respect about him is that he’s not scared to experiment (ll), which is a rarity when you reach the level he has. He’s a producer who takes his craft very seriously, developing his knowledge by studying Music Theory.

It can be argued that he’s moved on to a more Europop, electronica sound but lets not forget what the man is capaple of. Here are 10 favorites of mine. ft Terry Dexter: Lay Down

Sergio Mendes feat Pharoahe Monch/Justin Timberlake/ Loose Ends

Black Eyed Peas: Sexy

Talib Kweli: Hot Thing

Sergio Mendes feat India Arie: Timeless

Shakur feat : Nadda Hoe (this is a guilty pleasure of mine!)

Sergio Mendes ft Q-Tip: The Frog: (One of my producers sampled the original record and, yeah, we got ethered by Impatient (the original version of American Boy)

Nas: Cant Forget About You

Black Eyed Peas feat De La Soul: Cali to New York
