100% Everything

I got some more e-mails with people disagreeing that some labels/producers are sampling artists, knowing that they may not make any money from the record.

I claimed that sampling certain records is sometimes done purely for advertising purposes. This is because the record will still get the same amount of promotion, regardless if the artist or publisher makes money from it.

For example, Nicki Minaj – Check It Out samples these 2 records. However,  Nicki Minaj & Will I Am will receive no royalties for it.

(James Brown wrote the Lyn Collins record, which is why she isn’t credited)

From a business perspective, if you knew you were to receive no money for a record, what would be the point in heavily promoting it?

Because it still makes a great 3-4 minute commercial.
